Dressing to Please the Animal Inside: Chinese Zodiac Fashion Part 2

Posted on January 28, 2013 by Belle | 0 Comments

In Part 2 of this series, we will explore great fashion suggestions for those born in the years of the Dragon, Snake, Horse and Sheep. While the year that you were born in is associated with a particular animal, that animal is only said to represent the "outer" you. Each and every person actually has 4 animals that represent different aspects.

Your "inner" animal—which is believed to represent events and influence from your parents and your childhood—is derived from the month you were born. The day you were born on represents your "true" animal—seen as a representation of a person through their adult life. Your "secret" animal comes from the hour in which you were born. Because one's secret animal is determined by the smallest measure of time, it is said that this animal is representative of a person's deepest, truest nature.

If you look to your four personal animals for inspiration, you could create a deeply unique wardrobe and jewelry collection for yourself.

The Driven, Passionate Dragon

Dragons are seen as the strongest of the Chinese Zodiac signs. While they get a deep satisfaction from helping others, they tend to be loners and rarely ask for help themselves. Dragons follow their own drummer and are driven, successful and ambitious. You can find many born in the year of the dragon in politics or performing arts.

The dragon's element is earth and their color is gold. To dress for success, Dragons would do well to select clothing in earth tones. As Dragons like to do everything in grand style, unique outfits are a must. Don't grab the first cookie cutter dress that you can find. Large gold jewelry pieces will definitely suit this strong Zodiac animal.

The Intelligent, Alluring Snake

February 10, 2013 marks the beginning of the year of the Snake. Snakes are intelligent and very analytical, which is why they are often found pursuing careers in science. However, Snakes are known for becoming bored easily, so it shouldn't surprise you to find a snake changing jobs often. Their creativity and diligence allow them to shine even under tight deadlines.

Snakes place high value on material things. They enjoy the finer things in life and seek luxury in their wardrobe and surroundings. Any Snake would feel at their best in fine clothing, like a silk dress in their power color, red. For jewelry, only the best will do. An eye catching piece in diamonds would suit a Snake well and compliment their element, fire.

The Strong, Elegant Horse

Outgoing and animated, Horses thrive in jobs where they have a lot of interaction with other people. They bring a great deal of wit and enthusiasm to the table. As Horses possess fantastic communication skills, you will see many of them in public relations and journalism.

Horses must stay active. A great wardrobe addition would be something comfortable and sporty, but with a touch of elegance in the details. Red is the color for Horses, and fire is their element, so jewelry incorporating garnets or rubies with fiery diamonds is a perfect choice for those born in this Zodiac year.

 The Charming, Dependable Sheep

Creative and intelligent, Sheep enjoy expressing themselves in all aspects of their life. From cooking to decorating their home, the Sheep leans towards comfort and coziness. Their nurturing personalities make for excellent teachers and stylists where they can use their skills to their full potential.

If you were born in the year of the Sheep, express your grace and relaxed nature in flowing earth tones and yellows to compliment your natural element and power color. Seek jewelry with natural designs in gold. It will suit both your color and element as well as compliment your gentleness.

Once you've determined what your four Zodiac animals are, write them down on a card along with the element and color for each. Keep it in your pocketbook or jewelry box, and next time you're out shopping to add to your wardrobe, check to see what your Chinese animals would think of your choices.

We still have 4 more Zodiac animals to cover before Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) on Feb. 10, 2013! If you missed the first four animals, please read them in Part 1 of this series.
